Our History
Before 1990, there was a history of training only one National University of Mongolia specialist in the legal profession. After the victory of the Democratic Revolution, all forms of property were accepted. Shihihutug University was first established to fulfill the ambition and dream of creating our own school and implementing a new curriculum. The name Shihihutug was given by the founder D. Lundeejantsan.

In 1991, the Shihihutug Law Institute was established by the decision of the Council of Ministers of Education No. 11 dated October 16, 1991

In 1992, the opening ceremony of the inaugural session of the Shihihutug Law Institute took place on September 1. That year, 33 students were selected from a pool of over 500 applications.

In 1996, the Shihihutug Law Institute celebrated a significant milestone as the first cohort of 21 students successfully graduated. Furthermore, the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Enlightenment bestowed upon Shihihutug the honor of securing the first place in the examination of students' level among law universities.

In 1999, a noteworthy event occurred as the inaugural issue of the Shihihutug journal was published.

In 2001, Shihihutug Law Institute commemorated its 10th anniversary. Additionally, Shihihutug achieved its first successful accreditation. Furthermore, the "Clinical Training Center" was established during this significant year.

In 2002, the foundation of the Graduate school was laid, marking the beginning of a new chapter. The school admitted its first cohort of 10 graduate students. Dr. O. Amarkhuu, a Doctor of Legal Sciences (Sc.D) and Professor, served as the inaugural Chairman of the Master's Degree Council. Professor G. Sovd, also a Doctor of Legal Sciences (Sc.D), took on the role of Deputy Chairman.

In 2005, Shihihutug University achieved a milestone as the first academic building was inaugurated and put into operation. Additionally, during the same year, the "Gerege Club" for intellectual development was established, contributing to the university's commitment to fostering academic and intellectual growth among its students.

In 2006, on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the establishment of Great Mongolia and the 15th anniversary of the Shihihutug Law Institute, a bust of Shihihutug, the Ikh Zargach of Great Mongolia, was installed in the main building. Additionally, a special issue of the Shihihutug journal was published to mark this significant event. Moreover, Shihihutug achieved successful accreditation for the second time during this notable year.

In 2011, Shihihutug law institute celebrated its 20th anniversary.

In 2016, Shihihutug University attained the status of a university through Order No. A/296 issued by the Minister of Education, Culture, and Science.

In 2019, Shihihutug University expanded its facilities with the inauguration of the second university building, further enhancing its infrastructure.

In 2021, Shihihutug University celebrated its 30th anniversary, marking three decades of academic excellence and institutional growth.

In 2022, Shihihutug University achieved a significant milestone by obtaining accreditation for the fourth time, marking the first instance among Mongolian universities. This accomplishment highlights the institution's commitment to maintaining high standards of education and academic excellence.

In 2023, a statue of Shihihutug, the Ikh Zargach of Great Mongolia, was built outside the first building of Shihihutug University, adding a symbolic and historical presence to the campus. It was designed by Mongolian sculptur Ochirbold.

In 2024, a new milestone was achieved as the Institute of Comparative Law was established under Shihihutug University, further enriching the academic offerings and research capabilities of the institution.
